25th Anniversary of l’Annexe

On December 2, a celebration was held in honour of l’Annexe’s 25th anniversary. The French language Day Treatment program, located in Plantagenet, Ontario, is a collaboration between the Roberts/Smart Centre and le Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique de l’Est Ontarien.

L’Annexe is not only celebrating its anniversary but also expansions to its program. With the pandemic demand for mental health care for young people increased. So, this fall, we took steps with the school board to add a resource to welcome more young people,” said Catherine Van Vliet, Executive Director of the Roberts/Smart Centre.

The program is a unique response to the urgent need for an innovative solution for high school students facing suspension and who exhibit externalizing behaviours. Their aim is to provide teens experiencing severe mental health and behavioural issues an opportunity to pursue high school credits in a specialized classroom.

In honour of the event, the MPP from Glengarry-Prescott-Russel, Stéphane Sarrazin, sent a special video message featuring surprise guest, the Hon. Michael Tibollo, Deputy Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. In the video M. Sarrazin calls l’Annexe “a very special mental health treatment program for youth and a model to be copied across the province.”

This marks only the beginning of the Roberts/Smart Centre’s celebrations. The Centre will be celebrating its 50 anniversary in 2023.
