Lorsque S. est arriv\u00e9 au Centre Roberts\/Smart, il avait un sac \u00e0 dos plein de probl\u00e8mes \u00e9motionnels et comportementaux. C\u2019est typique chez la plupart des jeunes qui venaient au CRS : difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 interagir avec les autres, intens\u00e9ment en col\u00e8re, avec peu ou pas d’int\u00e9r\u00eat pour l’\u00e9cole ou pour \u00eatre ici, au Centre.<\/p>\n

Les probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 mentale touchent les enfants et les jeunes de tous les horizons. Les cons\u00e9quences sont souvent assez graves, entra\u00eenant une alt\u00e9ration du fonctionnement \u00e0 la maison, \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole et avec les amis ainsi que des probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9, d\u2019automutilation, de toxicomanie, de conflits avec la loi et parfois de tendances suicidaires.<\/p>\n

Le CRS offre un endroit s\u00fbr et des traitements sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s en sant\u00e9 mentale pour aider S. et des jeunes comme lui \u00e0 gu\u00e9rir, \u00e0 apprendre, \u00e0 grandir et \u00e0 vivre pleinement leur potentiel. Des conseillers attentionn\u00e9s et compatissants les aident \u00e0 traiter leurs sombres exp\u00e9riences de vie, \u00e0 voir les choses diff\u00e9remment, \u00e0 comprendre qui ils sont et \u00e0 apprendre \u00e0 r\u00e9agir \u00e0 de nouvelles situations.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous aidons les jeunes \u00e0 b\u00e2tir leur identit\u00e9. Lorsqu’ils partent, ils sont mieux pr\u00e9par\u00e9s \u00e0 r\u00e9\u00e9crire l’histoire de leur vie, \u00e0 poursuivre les \u00e9tapes importantes<\/strong> de leur cheminement vers la pl\u00e9nitude et un mode de vie plus sain \u00bb, d\u00e9clare un clinicien du CRS.<\/p>\n

Malheureusement, l’histoire de S. n’est pas rare. L’un des deux seuls fournisseurs de soins de sant\u00e9 mentale tertiaires pour les jeunes en Ontario, le CRS est souvent la derni\u00e8re ligne de d\u00e9fense pour les jeunes et les familles vivant avec des probl\u00e8mes complexes de sant\u00e9 mentale et de comportement. Mais lorsque les jeunes peuvent acc\u00e9der aux soutiens en sant\u00e9 mentale dont ils ont besoin, comme S. a pu le faire, cela peut changer le cours de leur vie.<\/p>\n

Dear Friend,<\/p>

When J. arrived at the Roberts\/Smart Centre he had a backpack full of emotional and behavioural issues. He was typical of most youth coming to RSC. Difficulty interacting with others, intensely angry, with little to no interest in school or in being here.<\/p>

Mental health issues affect children and youth from all walks of life. Consequences are often quite serious, leading to impaired functioning at home, in school and with friends, health problems, self-harm and substance abuse, conflict with the law, and sometimes, suicidality.<\/p>

RSC offers a safe place and specialized mental health treatment to help J. and youth like him, heal, learn, grow and live to their full potential. Caring and compassionate counsellors help them to process their experiences, to look at things differently, to gain an understanding of who they are, and learn how to respond to new situations.<\/p>

When they leave, they do so with a new lease on life, the author of their own story, having achieved important milestones<\/strong> in healing, treatment and education.<\/p>

Unfortunately, J\u2019s story is not uncommon. One of only two tertiary mental health providers for youth in Ontario, RSC is often the last line of defense for youth and families living with complex mental health and behavioural issues. But when youth can access the mental health supports that they need, as J. was able to, it can change the course of their lives.<\/p>
