Admission Criteria
The Centre will accept referrals of adolescents between the ages of twelve and seventeen living in Ontario and experiencing significant problems in one or more of the major areas of life functioning: personal, family, school or community.
Admission Procedure
The Centre will accept a referral from any parent or professional or from the adolescent him/herself. When an adolescent under sixteen refers him or herself, the treatment is provided only with written permission of parent or legal guardian.
Pertinent documentation and information is collected. The more information that is available at the time of referral, the easier it will be for decisions to be made with respect to the young person.
The case is presented to either an internal admissions committee (CiC, ASAP and Secure Treatment) or, in the case of CFI residential referrals, to Coordinated Access. These committees determine if the Centre can provide a program appropriate to the individual's need. This program may be residential or non-residential and may involve the following:
- adolescent skill development
- individual or family counselling
- peer group counselling
- advocacy
- referral
All inquiries with respect to referring a young person to the Roberts/Smart Centre, or to obtain information about the Centre should be directed to the Intake Coordinator:
