Todd Sloan
Todd Sloan is currently the Director of Offender Redress for the Correctional Service of Canada. For 15 years he was Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor for the Office of the Correctional Investigator (the ombudsman for federal offenders). As a lawyer, investigator and senior manager he has addressed many issues surrounding human rights, law and policy related to mental health treatment. He understands the roles and functions of government departments and agencies and the dynamics of staff relations the public sector.
His studies have included law, education, social sciences and access to information and privacy.
He has served on numerous community boards, with particular emphasis on meeting the needs of youth. He has managed a number of successful fund-raising projects.
Patricia Day
Patricia Day is a retired teacher and currently works as a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa. She is an instructor and mentor for the Roots of Empathy, a program run from schools in the Ottawa area that focuses on using empathy as a vehicle in the development of respectful and caring relationships, and reduction of bullying and aggression in children.
Patricia served on the Board of Directors for the Crossroads Children Centre for eight years, including one year as President. She also contributed three years to the Ottawa Youth Justice Committee and served on the Cross-Sectoral Committee for Day Treatment classes in the Ottawa Region from its inception in 1990 to the present. She joined the Roberts/Smart Centre Board in 2005 and, after a term as Vice-President, has assumed the President’s chair for 2007/2008.
Marg Offord
Marg has a background of over 10 years in human resources development, including Project Director for federal government-funded employment programs. She is a senior recruitment manager with QMR Staffing Solutions Inc., a financial, HR and strategic management resource firm that was awarded the fastest growing Ottawa firm in 2007 by the Ottawa Business Journal.
She graduated from McMaster University and is the eldest of 7 children born to immigrant parents. She has 2 daughters: one, completing her PhD in Medical Sciences, Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences, at McMaster; and the other a Grade 7 and Science teacher in a Toronto inner-city school.
Marg has volunteered over 20 years helping children and youth. From front-line to committee and Board member for the community centre, school, and non-profit organizations, she continues volunteering for Christie Lake Kids. Her late husband, Dr. Dan Offord, a leading child psychiatrist, worked tirelessly to build civic communities and Marg feels very privileged to fulfill this in part as a Director of the Board of Roberts/Smart.
Dr Janet Olds
Janet Olds has been a psychologist/neuropsychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for the past 20 years. She joined the Board in 2005, and has served on the Executive Committee since that time, as Secretary and currently as Vice-President, bringing a particular interest and expertise in the clinical programming and program development at the Centre. Dr. Olds’ previous experience includes membership on the Board of Directors of the Crossroads Children’s Centre from 1995 to 2002 , where she held the office of President from 1999 to 2001.
Kathie Lynas
Holding an Honours Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University’s School of Journalism, and in her career as a communications consultant, journalist and writer, Kathie’s expertise includes corporate communications, public affairs, media relations, media and presentation skills training.
Kathie has worked as a television, radio and print journalist, and as a media relations strategist and media trainer at communications firm Hill & Knowlton Canada. She is the volunteer chair of the communications committee of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) and previously, she was the volunteer Communications Chair for the community campaign of the United Way of Ottawa-Carleton. She joined the Board of Directors at the Roberts/Smart Centre in 2007, and chairs the Board’s Community Relations Committee and has lent her expertise to the overall communications strategy of the organization.
Raymond Grégoire
Raymond Grégoire was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Civil Engineering. After a military career that saw him serve in Summerside and Valcartier, he moved to Ottawa in 1983. After a brief retirement, he rejoined Correctional Services Canada in 2006, as a project manager with responsibility for large capital projects in Ontario and Quebec Institutions.
Raymond joined the Roberts/Smart Centre’s Board in 2005, and currently holds the office of Secretary. He has never worked closely in the social science field, and feels that his contribution to the Board will continue to bring a pragmatic view of the operations of the Centre, and to objectively question and challenge attitudes and decisions taken.
Brian D. Mulligan
Brian Mulligan joined the Board of the Roberts/Smart Centre and brought with him over 30 years of experience in financial management and administration. A chartered accountant, Brian has served as Treasurer of the Board since 2005, and guided the Centre through a very complex and sensitive restructuring exercise during the 2005/2006 fiscal year.
An active member of his community, Brian has lent his expertise to numerous organizations in Ottawa, including not-for-profit agencies as well as church and community groups. His Board experience is extensive as he has served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, from 1988 to 1991; and then supported the Crossroads Children’s Centre as a Board member from 1996 to 2006, including two years as President.
Shawn Sutton
As the Director of Business Planning and Treasurer, at Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc., Shawn brings a wealth of experience in accounting, finance and strategic planning to the Board.
Shawn has lived in Ottawa for almost 10 years. He is married and spends most of his time chasing after his two young children.
Shawn has a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Ottawa and is a Chartered Accountant.
